How to play
Rules
- One marker each
- Every player has a single marker on a normal 8×8 board. Two to six players share the board.
- A safe start
- Start squares are chosen so that no piece could reach another player on the first turn, whatever is drawn.
- Draw, then move
- On your turn you draw a random piece: pawn, knight, bishop, rook, queen or king. You move as that piece once.
- Capture to eliminate
- Moving onto another player captures them and they are out. Sliding pieces are blocked by other markers.
- Your pawn has a direction
- Each player faces one edge of the board. A pawn moves one square toward it and captures one square diagonally forward. Pawns never move backwards and never jump two.
- The far edge
- If your turn starts on the last square in your direction, you may move as any piece that turn instead of the one drawn.
- No move, no turn
- If the drawn piece cannot move, the turn passes.
- Quiet games end
- If 30 full rounds pass without a capture, the game ends and everyone still standing shares first place.
- Online timing
- You have 45 seconds per turn. Missing two turns in a row eliminates you. If you drop out, your seat is held for 60 seconds.
